I've driven around here since I got my license and I know them all. No one will catch us if I don't want us to be caught."
"You've convinced me," Chris said. "Let's check in."
He opened the door and put one foot onto the pavement. Her voice stopped him from going any farther. "Hold on; I'm not done. What was your mother's maiden name? We'll use it to register as husband and wife."
He turned back to her with a smirk. She blushed, and he nearly laughed out loud. D.J. might pretend to be tough, but she embarrassed real easy. "Walters." He got out of the car.
She did the same on the other side and followed him around to the back to get their luggage.
"Fine. We'll register as Mr. and Mrs. Walters, from Chicago. If anyone's curious, we're here to visit your brother. We'll ask for adjoining rooms. Since we'll be staying a week, we'd like the extra space. Got it?"
"Yeah, I got it." But he didn't like it. Chris pulled his suitcase and his laptop out of the car, waiting while D.J. shut and locked the vehicle. The thought of staying for an indefinite period of time in the same room, adjoining or otherwise, with D.J. Halloran had set his insides twirling.
